Totteridge Millhillians Cricket Club 3rd XI v Old Owens II on Sat 11 Aug 2018 at 1pm
Totteridge Millhillians Cricket Club Won 7 Wickets

Match report The 3s got back on the victory trail with a convincing win over a much-changed Old Owens 2s. Yes, it was a good toss to win, on a damp deck, but we took advantage of those conditions with straight bowling, solid catching (mostly), and a ruthless attitude with the bat.
Steve and Rudy reduced ‘em to 12 for 3, a trio of LBs, one to S, and 2 in 2 to R. Then an inside edge to Ahsan gave Rudy 3 for not very many and OOs were 4 down before a change in the bowling had even been contemplated. One change after very many years was for Steve to go round the wicket to the dogged leftie, and duly a nick was induced, though sadly it fell to ground from gully’s hands.

Never mind, after a short spell from Neil, the new spin twins of Waxy and X got to work and, helped by decent catches from Neil, Sathees and X himself, quickly demolished the admittedly long tail. This was also helped by a comedy, Pujara-esque, run-out – good calm work from Rudy in the face of chaos.

Waxy finished with the remarkable figures of 5.5-3-4-3, and X very typically good ones of 9-4-15-2. It’s a very rare day that neither of the Aruns gets on to bowl for the 3s but today, they just weren’t needed. 66 all out it was and we took a tea-less tea (we soon bought some) at about 3.00. Tea time in my book.

Juggling the batting order in the aim of hustling through to a quick finish, Ahsan (24) and Rambo played some shots and got us rattling along. Though wickets did fall, Sathees (21) carried on the demolition job before he fell to his own run out. To skipper Neil fell the honour of hitting the winning runs, after only 75 balls, while Mambo remained undefeated – though that might have something to do with the fact that he didn’t face a ball.

TFC (thanks for coming) to both Bobby and Munish, who were called up to bolster the batting, but in the event, did not bat, bowl, nor take a catch. You’re in good company lads, though Adil Rashid picked up a handsome match fee for his TFC at Lord’s.

Yes, the regime at RL needs looking at in regard to rolling, covering, and general maintenance. But the conditions weren’t so much worse when we batted, and had the toss gone the other way who knows what might have happened. I suspect we may still have prevailed.

Finishing as we did before the FA Cup tie on the main pitch, we could have a couple of leisurely pints at HQ (Totteridge Green, not Lord’s) and watch the pink ballers dodge the showers. As other results went our way we have assumed a healthier league position, and can enjoy the run-in with no pressure.
